Gexpro completes $1.3 million energy retrofit for BAE Systems

The Gexpro Binghamton office has recently completed a .3M energy retrofit for BAE Systems in Endicott, NY, USA. The retrofit is a pilot for BAE Systems, which is considering similar retrofit projects at locations around the country.

BAE Systems is among the world’s largest defense, security, and aerospace companies. With the installation of the Gexpro systems at the Endicott site, the company’s goals were to 1) reduce energy costs 2) establish a natural workplace environment for the 1,200 employees working there 3) implement a simple lighting solution with limited products and 4) have detailed reporting and control.

Gexpro’s retrofit included the latest in lighting, control, sensing and daylight harvesting technology:

– 5,000 light fixtures, each IP addressable so that they can be monitored and controlled from anywhere via an iPhone or iPad app
– Automated shading for all windows in the building, controlled by geographic positioning software package that locates the building in relation to the sun year round and automatically adjusts the shades accordingly
– Lighting occupancy sensor controls
– Software that monitors all data, fixtures and energy savings

The project to date has resulted in a 32 percent energy savings for BAE Systems at its Endicott location.
