In the latest ranking, unveiled on December 10, CDP awarded Rexel another “A” rating, placing the company among the top 4% of companies worldwide assessed for the quality of their environmental reporting in 2025.
Formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, CDP is the world’s only independent platform for environmental disclosure, and its ratings are widely trusted by investors and other stakeholders as a reliable benchmark of corporate climate performance.
Every year, participating companies complete a detailed questionnaire to share critical data on sustainability progress. This data covers not only greenhouse gas emissions but also climate risks and opportunities, as well as the steps companies are taking to manage them. CDP then assess the clarity, completeness and ambition of these reports to produce its annual ratings.
Transparency in climate reporting underpins business growth
As CDP states on its website, “The market is demanding more holistic information, recognizing that assessing the full extent of environmental risks, impacts and opportunities in operations, supply chain, product and service offerings is critical to achieving their business objectives.” In fact, CDP claims A-rated companies have outperformed others by 6% on average in stock gains over the last decade – proof that that progress in sustainability brings value to stakeholders.
For Rexel, this latest accolade recognizes the company’s firm commitment to climate progress. Isabelle Hoepfner-Léger, Rexel’s Group Sustainable Development Director, General Secretary and Secretary of the Board of Directors, said, “As a leading distributor of electrical products, services and solutions, we can help drive the energy transition, working with suppliers, partners and customers to promote the most climate-friendly and ethical solutions. Transparent environmental data is absolutely essential for guiding our company and our industry as a whole toward a low-carbon, sustainable future.”
A good example of the importance of climate data is the range of AI-powered tools developed by Rexel to help customers assess the climate footprint of the electrical products they use and identify more energy-efficient alternatives based on concrete environmental data.
Meaningful progress must be measurable
At the beginning of 2025, the group announced that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) had approved its updated sustainability roadmap, which now includes ambitious, concrete reduction targets for all Scope 3 emissions, in addition to Scopes 1 and 2. This means that Rexel is actively working with employees, partners and customers to reduce emissions not only from its direct operations but also from the manufacturing, transportation and use of the products and solutions it distributes worldwide.
Further, in September, Rexel shared the news that its EcoVadis Gold medal had been renewed, in recognition of its commitment to continually improving its sustainability performance. Rexel is also included in S&P’s Global Sustainability Yearbook of top performers and listed on numerous socially responsible investing (SRI) indexes.
