The Rexel Foundation mobilizes its emergency fund to provide disaster relief to impacted populations

The Rexel Foundation, whose mission is to support energy transition education, also allocates part of its annual budget to an emergency fund to assist areas impacted by natural disasters. Given the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, the Foundation is reinforcing its commitment to impacted populations through this fund. To this end, it has partnered with leading organizations such as the French Red Cross and Fondation de France to deliver practical on-the-ground assistance, meeting the most urgent needs. The two most recent initiatives carried out by the Rexel Foundation are described below.
A partnership with the French Red Cross
In 2025, the Rexel Foundation partnered with the French Red Cross to support emergency response efforts in the Americas and the Caribbean, allocating €50,000 from its emergency fund to support PIRAC, the French Red Cross Caribbean Regional Response Platform. The aim of this collaboration is to provide material assistance and strengthen humanitarian response capabilities in this world region, which is regularly exposed to climate-related disasters.
For more than 20 years, PIRAC has worked alongside Caribbean territories to reinforce their preparedness and capacity to respond to disasters. In a region that is particularly prone to natural hazards such as hurricanes, tropical storms, droughts, floods and landslides, and where island geography complicates the organization of emergency relief operations, PIRAC has developed a regional cooperation approach. The platform works with stakeholders across the Caribbean to build their capacities and ensure faster, more effective humanitarian relief suited to the needs of impacted populations.
Two concrete support measures
Launched in November 2025, this partnership enables the deployment of two concrete initiatives:
- The funding and delivery of 100 emergency kits containing basic necessities for hygiene, cooking, shelter and cleaning, along with solar lamps, mosquito nets and other supplies
- The installation and kitting of a container dedicated to emergency response operations by the French Red Cross Guadeloupe Territorial Delegation at PIRAC’s Regional Humanitarian Warehouse
The pre-positioning of relief supplies enables teams to respond without delay and provide communities with basic necessities in the first hours following a disaster. To guarantee this response capacity, storage facilities must be adapted to regional climate conditions. The container installed at PIRAC’s Regional Humanitarian Warehouse has therefore been customized to withstand extreme weather events in tropical conditions, particularly the violent winds associated with hurricanes. In this way, the facility fulfils its primary purpose: to remain operational after a disaster and protect emergency supplies.
By supporting the French Red Cross with these measures, the Rexel Foundation reaffirms its commitment to working alongside recognized humanitarian organizations to deliver practical, tailored assistance to communities affected by climate-related disasters.
In a region like the Caribbean, which is marked by a high degree of island fragmentation, every hour counts when disaster strikes. Having pre-positioned emergency supplies enables us to meet communities’ immediate needs without waiting for goods to arrive from other regions. The Rexel Foundation’s support reinforces our ability to respond and demonstrates the importance of committed partnerships in addressing the humanitarian challenges posed by climate change.

Support for people and territories impacted by wildfires with Fondation de France
When several French regions faced exceptionally severe heatwaves and wildfires this summer, Fondation de France launched an appeal for donations on July 27 to support the victims and the frontline responders.
In response, the Rexel Foundation joined the relief effort by allocating €50,000 from its 2026 emergency fund. By mid-September, more than €10 million had been collected. This outpouring of generosity enabled Fondation de France to support 27 local charities and commit approximately €700,000 to meeting the urgent needs of people impacted by these disasters.
A contribution to meet both immediate and long-term needs
Fondation de France focused its action first of all on assisting charities helping people affected by wildfires and heatwaves, as well as frontline responders. In a second phase, it will support the socioeconomic recovery of affected areas, focusing on the people hardest hit. Finally, it will step up its prevention efforts, given the risks associated with climate change.
Emergency assistance for victims and frontline responders
Among the first initiatives implemented in the affected areas, charities met the most pressing needs of the victims of wildfires and heatwaves, particularly the most isolated or vulnerable populations, through donations. In particular, they supported seniors, homeless people and young children, by providing essential items and services (shelter, drinking water, food and medical care).
They also offered emergency support to those working to help the affected communities and areas, such as healthcare professionals, support workers and firefighters.
Long-term support for local economic recovery
Fondation de France is also committed to providing long-term practical support to victims and local organizations. Its efforts will focus in particular on small-scale farmers and business owners who have lost equipment and produce, to help them get back on their feet and resume their activities.
With the help of charities and volunteers, emergency recovery projects (debris clearance, repairs, etc.) are underway to restore impacted farms and businesses while providing material and moral support.
Risk prevention
In addition to this emergency response, Fondation de France is supporting prevention initiatives to better anticipate the risks associated with climate change and build local resilience.
The Rexel Foundation supports energy transition education while also meeting immediate needs. In the face of growing climate-related disasters, it is essential to be able to act quickly and concretely in the field to help the most at-risk populations. By supporting the French Red Cross PIRAC platform and Fondation de France, the Rexel Foundation’s emergency fund aims to strengthen humanitarian response capacities for the benefit of communities impacted by climate change.
