Rexel, a leading distributor of electrical products, solutions and services, has launched a new “Sustainability Shapers” program with selected suppliers. Blending communications, training, promotions, advanced data, analytics, and circular economy services, the program brings together top manufacturers to speed the adoption of advanced sustainable practices and solutions across the electrical value chain.

Cooperation as the key to sustainability

From its position at the heart of the electrical equipment value chain, Rexel aims to set an example for sustainability in its own operations, supporting innovation and sharing expertise with suppliers, customers and other industry stakeholders.

Aligned with Rexel’s Axelerate28 growth strategy, the Sustainability Shapers program acknowledges the importance of broad cooperation across the industry in meeting sustainability goals. It also reflects Rexel’s commitment to continually improving its sustainability performance and accelerating sector-wide progress.

The company already requires all suppliers to adhere to its Sustainable Supplier Charter, covering climate action, ethics, human rights, labor rights and legal compliance. This framework reflects the four pillars of the company’s sustainability roadmap – People, Partners, Planet and Ethics and Compliance – as the foundation of Rexel’s broader sustainability strategy, which earned the Group a new EcoVadis Gold Medal this year. Rexel also works closely with suppliers to provide clients with environmental data tools and guide them to the most sustainable solutions, notably via a Sustainable Selection of more than 150,000 best-in-class products worldwide.

Concrete action to accelerate progress

On a practical level, the program includes dedicated communications offering insights on environmentally responsible technologies, specific training to help Rexel sales agents champion the Shapers’ sustainable products, and targeted promotions to facilitate customers’ access to their innovations. It also offers customers advanced data on the environmental impact of the products they use and buy, as well as additional recycling and reconditioning options. Lastly, participating suppliers will receive customer behavior analytics to help them better monitor sales, target their promotions and meet evolving customer requirements.

Ultimately, the program will support sustainability progress across the electrical equipment value chain, from manufacturer to end user, in line with Rexel’s purpose of “electrifying solutions that make a sustainable future possible.”

“Our new Sustainability Shapers program offers a concrete response to broad market demand. Although the maturity of our commercial, industrial and residential clients varies, their needs are converging to meet ESG requirements. Rexel and its partners can help them understand the evolving technology and regulation, and guide them toward smarter choices and the most sustainable products. For our clients, sustainability needs to be simple, tangible and verifiable: customer downloads of environmental data have doubled over the past two years. Thanks to Sustainability Shapers and our strengthened partnerships with our largest suppliers, customers will find access to the most sustainable products and solutions easier and more affordable than ever.”

Top suppliers with advanced ESG commitments

Program participants are among Rexel’s top 20 suppliers worldwide, who demonstrate an advanced commitment to environmental, social and governance progress, with an EcoVadis sustainability score of at least 64/100 (Bronze Medal) and an SBTi-approved climate.

The first confirmed Sustainability Shapers include: ABB, Hager, Ledvance, Legrand, Nexans, Schneider Electric and Signify, as well as Rexel’s own brands, BizLine and Gigamedia. Other suppliers meeting these criteria are in discussion with Rexel about joining Sustainability Shapers, which we expect to account for 30% of the company’s global sales volume within a year.
